10 current international cricketers whose T20I careers are almost over

The Twenty20 format of the game cricket that has been probably the best exciting and sensational gift for cricket lovers all over the world is extremely dynamic due to its short span. The complexion of the game can change within only a few balls as that is the reason every player, participating in a T20 match must have to be at the highest level of consistency that they achieve through sheer physical hard work and tremendous mental strength.

With the Indian Premier League being popular rapidly The T20 Leagues in different countries are also mushrooming. Many cricketers are coming up with huge potential, especially for this shortest format of the game and they have been earning their places in the first eleven of their respective country teams which have in other way been a major threat to the reputed cricketers who have been struggling to come out of their poor form.

This article will look into those 10 current international cricketers whose T20I careers are almost over.

Darren Bravo

Darren Bravo might be an important pillar in the batting of West Indies in Test cricket. But considering the T20 format, he cannot be called one of the world's Top T20 Players. The left-handed stylish batsman has not also been able to gather noticeable runs in his kitty in the T20 format. He has taken part in 20 T20 International matches and scored only 340 runs at an average of 20 where his highest run is unbeaten 43. Alongside Darren Bravo, having participated in 56 Tests has gleaned 3538 runs at an average of 36.47 where he hit a double century (218) and scored eight centuries.

Bravo has even been irregular in the IPL. He was able to manage in participating in only a solitary match for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 and remained unbeaten on 6 runs!

With the types of aggressive Simron Hetmayer, mercurial Nicholas Pooran and big-hitting Kieron Pollard are solidifying their places in the West Indies T20 squad, Bravo's chances of returning to the T20 squad are fading out.

Dinesh Karthik

The wicketkeeper-batsman is also one of the 10 current international cricketers whose T20I careers are almost over. Once he was consistent in the shortest format. In the IPL Karthik has participated in 196 matches and scored 3823 runs at an average of 26.01 and he also has taken part in 32 T20 International matches and gathered 399 runs at an average of 33.25. In the overall T20 format Tamil Nadu-based batsman has huge 5877 runs from 302 matches including 30 fifties where his highest score was unbeaten 97.

But in the recently concluded IPL Karthik looked struggling with his form. The Kolkata Knight Riders batsman was able to score only 169 runs from his 14 innings this season at an average of 14.08! K.L Rahul who is also a wicket-keeper has been showing tremendous form with the bat. Sanju Samson is also waiting for a call in the T20 national side with his all potential. Naturally, the 35-year old Dinesh Karthik does not seem to have any more chance to return to the T20 national squad.

Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is called the 'Gladiator' in the T20 format. The West Indies' opening batsman has shown what an enormous power he can generate from his willow and unnerves even the world’s best bowlers when they bowl to Gayle. It can be unfortunate to say that one of The Top 10 T20 International Cricketers now is going down as the tremendous form that he has shown in almost the last two decades and he can be called one of 10 current international cricketers whose T20I careers are almost over. The 41-year old Gayle has taken part in 58 T20 International matches and scored 1627 runs at an average of 32.54 including two centuries and 13 fifties. His highest score in the T20 International match is 117. His immaculate strike rate (142.84) describes his bombardment with the bat on the crease where he has hit 105 sixes!

In IPL also Gayle was equally superb as he has amassed 4772 runs at a spectacular strike rate of 150.11! Gayle participated in the last T20 International match for his country in 2019 against England. He was out for 5 runs. Gayle is more than 41-year old. So the batsman is unlikely to be called by the Cricket West Indies in the T20 national squad.

The leading wicket-taker of his country has picked up 64 wickets from 47 Twenty20 International matches for South Africa. One of the Top T20 players, participating in the IPL, has also exciting statistics of 97 wickets from 95 matches!

But Steyn was off-colored in 2020 IPL as he picked up a solitary wicket from his three matches. Representing the country also in 2020 in T20 International matches Steyn had bagged only three wickets from his three matches. Additionally, repeated injuries forced Steyn to get out of mainstream cricket often and that is the reason this 37-year old South African may not be called into the national T20 squad.

David Willey

The left-arm medium-pacer from England was last seen in action in T20 International for his country in 2019. David Willey has grabbed 34wickets from his 28 T20 International matches for England but at a little higher economy rate of 8.20. The interesting part in Willey is that England had won 11 T20 matches out of the 17 matches the team took part in after Willey's outing in 2019! But England Cricket Control Board seems to have moved on from this left-arm pacer as he had played in the shortest format more than a year passed.

Alex Hales

Alex Hales is called one of the T20 Top Players from England. The attacking right-hand batsman is the second-highest run-scorer for England in the T20 format. He has scored 1644 runs from 60 T20 International matches with an impressive striker rate of 136.65 including a century (116) and eight fifties. However, Hales went through a noticeable plunge in his form. He had failed to perform in his last five T20 innings and he last donned England shirts in T20 in 2019. With England having gained quality batsmen like Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Roy, Malan, and Bairstow Hales seems to have gone to oblivion in selectors' minds.

Chris Lynn

This Australian top-order batsman did not look comfortable or dominating in the shortest format of the game ever. Chris Lynn, the right-hand batsman has scored 291 runs from 18 T20 International matches and he does not have a single fifty. Rather in the IPL Lynn looked quite impressive as from his 41 matches he has amassed 1280 runs at a strike rate of 140.66. Still, he failed to feature in a single match for Mumbai Indians in 2020 IPL as they already had settled in-form top-order batsmen. So, at this point of stage Lynn's chances of getting into the National T20 squad look fading as Australia has a few superb T20 batsmen like Finch, Steve Smith, David Warner, Wade, and Maxwell.

Jadav has taken part in nine T20 International matches for India and scored 122 runs. As India's middle-order batting line-up is already settled Kedar Jadhav has the least chance of getting into the national T20 squad
