The Indian Premier League is not just like any other Cricket league in the world. It is the biggest, most glamourous global sporting event in the world. IPL is an International T20 cricket league contested in India during April and May of every year by eight teams which represent eight different cities in India. The league initially was found by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008. The IPL also has an exclusive window in ICC Future Tours Programme. 

The Indian premier league is the most-attended cricket league in the world and in the year 2014, it was ranked sixth by average attendance among all sports leagues in the world. In the year 2010, IPL became the first-ever sporting event in the world to be broadcasted live on YouTube. The brand value of the IPL in 2019 was estimated at ₹475 billion (US$6.7 billion). IPL 2015 season contributed ₹11.5 billion (US$160 million) to the GDP of the Indian economy according to BCCI.

For the 2020 auctions, The IPL governing council released a list of 971 cricketers - 713 Indians and 258 foreign, who will compete for the 73 available spots across the eight franchises. The thing about playing in the biggest Cricket league in the world is that players get overnight fame, International exposure and of course a lot of Mullah! As the Indian Premier League auction ended, a total of 62 players were bought by eight teams combined.

1. Pat Cummins

Australian Bowler Pat Cummins broke all the records in the IPL auctions 2020 to grab the top spot at the sold players list by becoming the highest taker of all. Pat was sold to the Kolkata based franchise-owned By Shah Rukh Khan – KKR - Kolkata for a Whopping INR 15.50 crores. Earlier Ben stokes was the highest grosser sitting at INR 14.5 crores. Pat is currently at the top of the bowler’s rankings in Test Cricket.

2. Glenn Maxwell:

Known for his explosive batting in the limited-overs format, Australian Glenn Maxwell found some really high-end takers at the IPL auction table for the 2020 edition. The Aussie was picked by the Punjab based franchise KXIP - Punjab for a whopping 10.75 crores at the auction.

3. Chris Morris 

The 2020 edition saw a lot of takers for All-rounders. South African international cricketer Christopher Henry Morris who plays first-class and List A cricket for Titans were picked by the Bengaluru based franchise RCB for a whopping INR 10 crores after being released by the DC - Delhi ahead of the 2020 IPL auction

4. Sheldon Cottrell

A left-arm fast-medium bowler and a right-handed batsman, Sheldon Shane Cottrell is a Jamaican international cricketer who plays for the West Indies cricket team. Popular around the world for his famous celebration, Cottrell found some money pouring on him at the 2020 edition. The Jamaican was picked by the King XI Punjab for a whopping INR 8.50 who went into the auction with the biggest purse.

5. Nathan Coulter-Nile

Another Australian who found his place on the list of Costliest overseas players in the 2020 auction is Nathan Coulter-Nile. The pacer from Western Australia was picked by the Mumbai based franchise MI - Mumbai for INR 8 crore at the auctions. Nathan had earlier represented the KKR - Kolkata and the RCB - Bangalore in the past before finding a place in the richest franchise team of the leagues.
