The players who are on the top of the table in all the formats are considered to be Crème of the Sports entertainment industry and are treated like superstars by their fans.

We took a sample of Top 5 ODI batsmen in the world to see how they fared against each other

1. Faf Du Plessis

Number 5 in the ODI rankings is Faf du Plessis, the right-handed South African middle-order batsman who is also a part-time leg-spin bowler. He made his ODI debut on 18th January 2011, against India at Newlands. He has played 143 one day internationals in his career so far and has scored 5507 runs from 136 innings. Faf has smashed 12 hundred and 35 fifties in the 50-over format and his highest score is 185. He also has an impressive average of 46.67 and a strike rate of 88.57. Faf was handed over the Test captaincy in December 2016 and he took over the full-time captaincy in all formats of the game in August 2017.

2. Ross Taylor

The former captain of the New Zealand team is number 4 in the ICC Rankings. The right-handed batsman is the leading run-scorer for his country both in Tests and ODIs. Taylor made his ODI debut against the West Indies at McLean Park on 1st March 2006 after rising through the ranks of central districts. Since then, he has played 232 matches and has scored 8569 runs at an average of 48.41. His glorious career includes 21 hundred and 51 fifties and a top score of 181. The former New Zealand captain also has an impressive strike rate of 83.4.

3. Babar Azam

Babar Azam made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Gaddafi Stadium on 31st May 2015. The top-order batsman has made and broken some amazing record in the 74 matches he has played for his country. In a home series against West Indies, he smashed 3 consecutive hundreds in a 3-match series becoming the third batsman to do so, he also broke the record for scoring the highest runs (360) in a 3-match series. Babar Azam is the only batsman to score 350+ runs in a three-match series. He smashed his 5th hundred against West Indies in his 25th innings and became the second-fastest batsman to score five ODI hundreds.  The right-handed batsman has scored 3359 runs so far, which includes 11 hundred and 15 fifties. His career average is 54.18, which is one of the best in the world right now. He stands at number 3 in the ICC rankings for ODI batsmen

4. Rohit Sharma

Also nicknamed as the ‘Hitman’, Rohit Sharma has been reckoned as one of the rare Indian talents in the last decade of Indian Cricket. He is the only cricketer in the history of cricket to score more than one ODI double-hundred, doing it three times in his career so far. In January 2020, Rohit was named the ODI Cricketer of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC).  He has played 224 matches to date, from which he has 29 hundred, 3 double hundreds, and 43 fifties. He has 9115 runs under his belt and has a career average of 49.27. He is ranked at number 2 in the ICC rankings.

5. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli aka King Kohli tops the ICC rankings for ODI batsmen in 2020. Known as the best batsman in the world today, Kohli has received many honors in many awards such as the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy (ICC Cricketer of the Year) in 2017 and 2018; ICC Test Player of the Year 2018; ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2012, 2017 and 2018 and Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He also holds the highest sporting honor in India the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, The Arjuna award, and also the Padma Shree under the sports category. The Indian captain has played 248 matches in his career to date and has 11, 867 runs under his belt which includes 43 hundred and 58 fifties, his career average is at an all-time high of 59.34. His highest score in a game is 183 and he has a strike rate of 93.25.
