IPL 2020 Auctions: Indian Premier League Changes in 2020

Welcome to the second part of the  IPL 2020 auctions. In the last blog, we discussed how each team faired before the auctions in Kolkata. A total of 332 players were shortlisted to be auctioned for 73 vacant spots. 29 of these cricketers are overseas players, while rest of the lot is a mixture of Indian capped and uncapped players.

Players like Chris Morris, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Kane Richardson, Kyle Abbott, and Shaun Marsh have confirmed their availability for this edition, with each opting for a base price of INR 1.5 crore. If we talk about Indian players, Piyush Chawla has been the highest paid Indian player so far at 6.75 crores.

Three players who will not be included in the current edition are Yuvraj singh, Shakib-Al Hassan, Liam Livingstone and Rasikh Salam. In the last blog, we looked at all the teams on paper and discussed how much money is left in each of the team’s wallet and how many players do each of them need to complete the required team. 

Now, its time for the bidding war to begin in Kolkata, the stage is set. 

Something as big as the Indian Premier League 2020 can only bring everyone under the same roof and gives them the biggest stage to perform.Indian players, overseas players, batsmen, bowlers, spinners, all-rounders, wicket keepers, Indian uncapped players, overseas uncapped players, players from associate nations , all of these players under the same umbrella for 51 days straight. It is going to be a gala affair. 

Let the auctions begin: 

The auction starts with Australian striker Chris Lynn, He gets sold to MI - Mumbai for the base price of 2 crores

Next is English captain Eoin Morgan. KKR pounces on the opportunity and ropes in Morgan for 5.25 cr. , KKR, here is eyeing for a formidable middle-order batsman and possibly a skipper for the team.

Robin Uthappa goes for 3 crores to the RR - Rajasthan

Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari remain unsold in the first round

English batsman Jason Roy goes to the DC - Delhi for 1.5 crores, after being released by the franchise earlier

KKR and RCB fight it out at the auction table for Australian opener Aaron Finch, RCB finally gets hold of him at 4.40 crores. What seemed like a long lost battle for RCB is finally their game

KXIP - Punjab is trying to rope in Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Punjab holds onto Maxwell, but Delhi puts up a good fight ensuring that Maxwell becomes the first millionaire as the bid reaches over 9 crores. KXIP Finally buy him back for 10 crores 75 lacks.

DC - Delhi rope in Chris Woakes at his base price of 1.5 crores

Pat Cummins is next up at the auctions. RCB and DC start the bidding war. Bid for Cummins reaches 15 crores.

KKR bids for Cummins at 15 crores. Out of nowhere, Kolkata jumps in the middle of a battle ground and buy Cummins 15.50 crores. Cummins becomes the highest paid player in IPL 2020.

Bidding war starts for English all-rounder Sam Curran now. He goes to CSK for 5.50 Crores.

The South African all-rounder Chris Morris is now getting bids from RCB and KXIP. Mumbai jump into bidding war for Morris as he closes in on 10 crores. RCB ropes him in for 10 crores.

After the first round of auctions, there will be a 15-minute break after which the auction will resume again. Pat Cummins was the biggest buy of the afternoon.

Auction resumes after the break : This session starts with wicket-keepers. First up, is Alex Carey. 

DC - Delhi buy the Australian keeper Carey for 3.4 Crores.

Carey was the only wicketkeeper who was sold in this session. All the other wicketkeepers went unsold.

Next up is the IPL players list for bowlers. Mohit Sharma and Dale Steyn go unsold to start off with.

Jaydev Unadkat brought back by the RR - Rajasthan for 3 Crores

Bidding war between MI - Mumbai and CSK - Chennainow starts forNathan Coulter-Nile. MI finally buy him for 8 Crores.

Next is Sheldon Cottrell, the west Indian attracts big money in his first IPL season. He is sold to the KXIP - Punjab for 8.5 crores

Next is the set of spinners, First up is veteran spinner Piyush Chawla.

Chawla goes to the CSK for 6.75 crores 


Now, it is time for the Uncapped players,

KKR buys Rahul Tripathi for 60 Lakhs.

SRH - Hyderabad buy Virat Singh and Priyam Garg for 1.90 Crores each.

KXIP buy Deepak Hooda for 50 lakhs.

KKR makes another surprising bid by buying Varun Chakravarty for 4 Crores.

Yashasvi Jaiswal roped in by RR - Rajasthan for 2.40 Crores.

Ishan Porel sold to KXIP - Punjab for 20 Lakhs.

Karthik Tyagi goes to RR - Rajasthan for 1.30 Crores.

M Siddharth sold to KKR for 20 lakhs

Ravi Bishnoi is roped in by KXIP for 2 crores


This concludes the session for the young brigade of India. Another 10-minute break follows.

       Shimron Hetmyer starts the session after the break.

Bidding war for Hetmyer starts between KKR and RR. Delhi jumps in. Hetmyer goes above 6 Crores as the war intensifies. He is finally sold to Delhi for 7.75 Crores.

Evin Lewis goes unsold.

David Miller roped in by RR - Rajasthan at a surprisingly low price of 75 lakhs.

MI - Mumbai buy back Saurabh Tiwari for 50 Lakhs.

Martin Guptill, Manoj Tiwari and Evin Lewis goes unsold in this session.

       Carlos Braithwaite and Marcus Stoinis also go unsold in the 12th set

Mitchell Marsh sold to SRH - Hyderabad for 2 Crores.

Australian big-hitting all-rounder, Ben Cutting goes unsold.

James Neesham goes to KXIP for 50 Lakhs.

CSK buys Josh Hazlewood for 2 crores in a good buy.

KKR also rope in Tom Banton for 1 Crore.

SRH buy Fabian Allen for 50 Lakhs.

Bidding war between KXIP and RCBstarts for Chris Jordan. He goes to KXIP for 3 Crores.

Kane Richardson is bought by RCB for 4 crores

RR ropes in Oshane Thomas for 50 lakhs

Oldest player in the history of IPL Pravin Tambe goes to KKR for 20 lakhs

Tajinder Dhillon sold to KXIP for 20 Lakhs.

Sanjay Yadav goes to SRH for 20 Lakhs
