IPL 2021 7th Match RR vs DC Highlights

Miller, Morris steer Royals to 3-wicket victory over Delhi

Rajasthan Royals defeated Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets in the 7th match of the 14th IPL in Mumbai on Thursday. In reply to Delhi Capitals’ 147 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs, Royals scored 150 for the loss of 7 wickets in 19.4 overs. Even after struggling with 6 for 90, the Royals returned to the match courtesy of David Miller's superb 62 off 43 balls and unbeaten 18-ball 36 by Chris Morris. Avesh Khan was the most successful bowler of the Delhi outfit, scalping 3 wickets for 32 runs in 4 overs.

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field first. Delhi Capitals, despite having a solid batting line-up was not able to set a big target for the opposition. Even the two opening batsmen, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan, who exhibited unyielding partnership in the team’s previous match failed to give their team a firm stand. Prithvi got out for 2 while Shikhar Dhawan returned to the pavilion scoring only 9 runs off 11 deliveries. Ajinkya Rahane also failed to sustain, being out for 8 runs after having played 8 balls. Marcus Stoinis (20), Tom Curran (21), and Chris Woakes (15) also provided average support not being able to justify their fame as middle-order batsmen, especially in the power-play session.

Still, Delhi Capitals could be able to score 147 for the loss of 8 wickets thanks to their captain Rishabh Pant’s excellent 51 off 32 deliveries. Pant who has been consistent form since India toured Australia, hit 9 fours at a strike rate of 159.37. Had Pant not been run out and if Ravichandran Ashwin had not been run out for 7 only Delhi Capitals could have made more runs in their kitty.

Looking at the bowling of Rajasthan Royals, Jaydev Unadkat deserves the credit most for having made the breakthrough of the backbone of Delhi innings. He set a superb bowling figure of 4 overs, 15 runs, and 3 wickets at an economy rate of 3.75, and the three wickets he captured were all-important for Delhi. They were in-form Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ajinkya Rahane. Mustafizur Rahaman also bagged 2 wickets at the cost of 29 runs in 4 overs at an economy rate of 7.25.
