IPL 2021 CSK vs DC Match - 2 Highlights

Dhoni fails as Rishabh Pant’s Delhi wins its opener in the IPL in Mumbai

CSK Vs Delhi Capitals battle in the Indian Premier League (IPL) turned out a one-sided affair on Saturday in Mumbai as Delhi Capitals trounced Chennai Super Kings in style, winning by 7 wickets with 8 balls remaining. In reply to CSK's 188 for the loss of 7 wickets, Delhi Capitals scored 190, losing only three wickets in 18.4 overs. The two Delhi openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan looked so dominating over their opposition that CSK bowlers had to struggle till 13.3 over to make the breakthrough and Delhi were 137 for no loss that time. Prithvi who had been in tremendous form in the recently concluded domestic competitions, made a solid 72 off 38 deliveries, hitting 9 fours and 3 huge sixes while seasoned campaigner Shikhar Dhawan also scored 85 off 54 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes.

Delhi Capitals, under the leadership of Rishabh Pant for the first time in IPL, won the toss and elected to bowl first. They had entered the ground on the day without their two key bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje as both the bowlers have still been in quarantine. Tom Curran and Chris Woakes got into Delhi outfits. Similarly, South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi also has not been available for CSK for the same reason.

CSK Vs Delhi Capitals also saw a miserable Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday, probably playing his worst season in the history of IPL. He participated in a competitive tournament last in IPL 2020. After a year’s lay-off completely from all competitive tournaments, Dhoni could not find himself in CSK’s opening match on Saturday in Mumbai. The former Indian captain as well as present skipper of CSK went to bat at number 5 and could be able to play just 2 balls before being caught and bowled by Avesh Khan for a duck.

Earlier in the CSK Vs, Delhi Capitals match CSK, batting first scored 188 for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina were the two batsmen who helped CSK to set a target of 189 for the opposition. Moeen Ali scored 36 off 24 deliveries hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes while Suresh Raina who was carrying the CSK innings, got run out for 54 off 36 balls, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes. Rabindra Jadeja (unbeaten 26 off 17 balls) and Sam Curran (34 off 15 balls) also took CSK to a formidable score. On Delhi’s part, Avesh Khan took 2 wickets while R. Ashwin and Tom Curran got one each.
