Head-to-Head

After a tough game last night, its time to move on to game number 5 of the Indian T20 cricket league! The start to this week has been something to talk about and we are hoping that tonight’s match will be as exciting as last nights. In tonight’s Tuesday tussle, Mumbai take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. So far, we have seen every team play a match each and we have seen how they have fared till now. Tonight,  Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders both play their second match in the tournament tonight. While on one hand, Mumbai is coming off a loss against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and on the other hand Kolkata are coming off a win against the Sunrisers.

Mumbai Indians possess a host of good players  in their line-up and on their bench and on any given day they are the strongest unit in the league which they have proved time and again. A bad start in the first match should not affect a team like them, after all they are five times champions!

On the other hand, the knights will be cautious against MI, given the fact they have one their first match and will be looking to continue a good run in the tournament by continuing their winning streak.

Pitch Conditions

The recent matches played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium has assisted the spinners a lot, and this trend may continue in the IPL 2021 as well. This wicket is being coined as sluggish and anything above 150 runs will be a competitive total for the team batting second.

Batting:

MI:

Defending champions Mumbai will be counting on their top order as usual to give them a solid start and skipper Rohit sharma may bring in Chris Lynn and expect him to fire with his bat along with partner Quinton De Kock. Although the former is looking in a sublime form and is capable of taking the match away, the latter has failed to fire in the past and will have to find his feet soon. Suryakumar Yadav is looking strong in the middle while Ishan Kishan is in the form of his life. Then, there are Pandya brothers and Kieron Pollard. This makes them a solid batting side.

KKR:

KKR showed some real firepower with their batting which is both bane and boon for them. They rely heavily on Andre Russell which is a strategy they will have to change if they wish to reach the final. Their top order looks good with two youngsters Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi looking in good touch. Eoin Morgan needs to promote himself up the order, so he has more balls to play. Dinesh Karthik and Russel can provide them a perfect finish if they fix their batting order correctly.

Bowling:

MI:

Their bowling department is looking strong enough give KKR batsmen a run for their money. Jasprit Bumrah has displayed why he is the mainstay at MI as he has been maintaining a low economy throughout and will be their go-to bowler in the death overs, there is no doubt about that. He’ll be accompanied by Trent boult and Nathan Coulter-Nile who could make a huge impact this season.  They have Piyush Chawla in the spin department and also young pacer Arjun Tendulkar. It will be interesting to see how they pick their mix of bowlers on this sluggish pitch.

KKR:

KKR's forte is certainly their bowling, especially their spin bowling attack. This year, they have also included Harbhajan Singh to Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav and Shakib. Pat Cummins will lead their bowling and Russell mixes the deliveries well. Which means they do not have to heavily rely on just one bowler and there will be space for everyone to come out and rise to the occasion. They looked good in the last match, however, Harbhajan did not get too much exposure and Eoin Morgan may look to use him against his former team.

IPL 2021 Match - 5 KKR vs MI Head to Head Prediction

Match Prediction

MI are the one of the best batting units in the league, what they have to keep in mind is that if they choose their batting combinations correctly, they can change the course of the match. Their batting order, if fires tonight then it will be extremely hard for KKR to contain them. Moreover, This is not the case with their opponent, who have struggled in the past because poor decision in the batting order.

Both teams have one department as their forte. One of them is good batting side, while the other is an excellent bowling unit. Only time will tell who comes out on top!
