Rishabh Pant will lead Delhi Capitals in absence of injured Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyar has been one of the top players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in recent times. Since the middle of 2018 when Iyer was offered captaincy of his franchise team Delhi Capitals, his performance did not decline and he showed potential as a captain also. Under his captaincy in 2019, Delhi's outfit had reached the play-off spot for the first time since 2012. The franchise also reached the final of the IPL in 2020 under his leadership for the first time. Shreyas could have led the team for the entire season of coming IPL 2021. But owing to shoulder dislocation Shreyas Iyer has been officially ruled out of the upcoming IPL.

Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane’s white-ball career seems to have taken a short slump. The Mumbai Indians batsman has already established himself as a specialist batsman in Test. He has not been around the ODI or in the T20 format of the game. His IPL career also declined as the right-hand batsman got a chance of batting in only 9 matches in the last edition of IPL. But after his brilliant leadership in absence of Virat Kohli against Australia in the recently concluded Test series there on Australian soil, Rahane proved his mettle as a captain. Additionally, his captaincy with Rajasthan Royals helped the franchise team to finish within the top four in 2018 IPL. Considering all these points, Rahane can be one of the IPL 2021: 5 Players who could have lead Delhi Capitals (DC) in Shreyas Iyer’s absence.

Steve Smith
Steve Smith has been purchased by Delhi Capitals for the 2021 IPL for a price of Rs 2.2 crores. One of the world's top batsmen of his time was the captain of Rajasthan Royals in the last edition of IPL. But he was released ahead of the upcoming season. Smith's ability to lead any team should not be questionable as apart from having led Australia in Test, the Australian batsman has captained Rajasthan Royals as well as the now-defunct teams, Pune Warriors and Rising Pune Supergiant. His captaincy had guided Supergiant to the final of the League in 2017. So, Smith can be also a great option in IPL 2021: 5 Players who could have lead Delhi Capitals (DC) in Shreyas Iyer’s absence.

Prithvi Shaw
In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, this Mumbai batsman has been given charge of the Mumbai side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year. He not only guided his team to clinch the title leading from the front but also scored 800 runs in the competition that no other batsman has been able to do in recent times. Besides, having the experience of captaining under-19 India in the under-19 World Cup could have helped DC management to choose Prithvi Shaw as the skipper of DC if Pant would have not been available.

Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is a hugely experienced cricketer. He has been with Delhi Capitals since his transfer from Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019. In his last two years’ stint with DC Dhawan has scored 521 and 618 runs, respectively. Dhawan is a cricketer who can lead the team from the front. He also captained Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 but later revealed that he wanted to focus mainly on his batting. But he has always been a part of the leadership group both Delhi and Hyderabad.

Ravichandran Ashwin
Ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had tried with the captaincy in the IPL during his stint with Punjab Kings. But he did not have the taste of much success as Punjab Kings under his captaincy finished at 7th and in the next season the franchise team ranked 6th. Ashwin as a captain won 12 matches out of 28 matches. Still, given his experience, the franchise outfit could have thought of this experienced spinner.
