MI vs CSK Match Highlights IPL 2021

Pollard blitzkrieg helped Mumbai earn a thrilling 4-wicket victory against CSK

Kieron Pollard's sparkling unbeaten 87 off 34 deliveries steered Mumbai Indians to earn a thrilling 4-wick victory against Chennai Super Kings in the 27th match of the ongoing IPL in Delhi on Saturday. In reply to CSK’s 218 for 4, Mumbai Indians scored 219 for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Even after Quinton de Kock (38 off 28 balls) and Rohit Sharma (35 off 24 balls) gave MI a firm start it could have been difficult for MI to reach the target as CSK bowlers, especially Sam Curran was bowling with precision. Their consistent Yorkers in the death overs compelled Mumbai batsmen to get out without settling with a big score. Krunal Pandya scored 32 off 23 deliveries but that was not enough for the Mumbai outfit to grab control of the match. Kieron Pollard was the only man to have countered CSK bowlers with blasting shots and he changed the complexion of the match in the 19th and 20th over, smashing Curran consecutive fours to bring the desired victory for his team. The West Indian remained unbeaten 87 off 34 balls hitting 8 sixes and six fours with a strike rate of 255.88. Sam Curran was the most successful bowler of CSK, scalping 3 for 34 in his 4 overs.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings lost the toss and were asked to bat first. But that did not seem to have affected them as the team set a challenging score for the opposition. They scored 218 in 20 overs having lost only 4 wickets. Rituraj Gaikwad, after a consistent show in the team's last few matches, had failed today, getting out for 4 only. Still, on a grassy Kotla track, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and Ambati Rayadu became three heroes of CSK to maneuver the innings, placing it in a safe and fighting score for Mumbai Indians. Moeen Ali, coming at a time when CSK was in trouble following Gaikwad’s departure with 4 for one in the very first over, scored an excellent 36-ball 58 at a strike rate of 161.11 hitting five massive sixes and five fours. Faf du Plessis also accompanied Moeen in the same tone, smashing a 28-ball 50 with a strike rate of 178.57, hitting four sixes and two fours. Still, CSK would have had difficulty to reach 200-run had Rayadu not been able to execute a cyclonic unbeaten 27-ball 72 with a strike rate of 266.66 cracking seven sixes and four fours. Rabindra Jadeja also remained unbeaten 22.

Among the Mumbai Indians bowlers, Kieron Pollard was most economical with an economy rate of 6 as he managed two wickets from his 2 overs at the cost of 12 runs. But all the other five bowlers were battered by the three batsmen of CSK especially Ambati Rayadu. Jasprit Bumrah managed one wicket but giving away 56 runs in 4 overs.
