RCB defeats MI by two wickets in the opener

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) took off on Friday in Chennai through the match between the defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Mumbai Indians Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore saw AB De Villiers once again executing a match-winning 48 off 27 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes to guide RCB to a 2-wicket victory over defending champion Mumbai Indians on Friday in Chennai. In reply to Mumbai Indian’s 159 for the loss of 9 wickets, RCB scored 160 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Earlier, Virat Kohli, the RCB skipper finally won the toss and elected to field. Mumbai outfit had made only two changes from the last final. Quinton De Kock is still in quarantine. Chris Lynn has come into the playing eleven replacing Jansen and Rahul Chahar has been replaced by Jayant Yadav. Mumbai Indians Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore also saw a new-look RCB on the day. Glen Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson, Dan Christian-all are new to this team. Devdutt Paddikal has been asked to play in this match as he has just returned cured of COVID-19. Rajat Patidar comes in his place.

Mumbai Indians, batting first scored 159 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Chris Lynn had a decent show with 49 off 35 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. He was the top scorer on Friday. Surya Kumar Yadav (31) and Ishan Kishan (28) also looked impressive in building up MI innings.

Mumbai Indians Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore also witnessed a newcomer steal the first part of the match as Harshal Patel who has been highly promising in the domestic cricket with an experience of participating in already 100 Twenty20 matches, set an excellent figure of 5 wickets at the cost of 27 runs in 4 overs. This is his first five-wicket haul and simultaneously, Harshall played a crucial role with the bat. He scored only 4 runs but in the last all-important 3 deliveries when Mumbai looked desperate for the victory following De Villiers’ departure in the last phase of the match.
