73rd International Century: Virat Kohli

We must not get surprised by another international century from our " Run Machine", Mr. Virat Kohli. In total India scored 373 runs off 7 wickets in the first ODI of this year.

Tuesday's ( i.e10 Jan. ) opening game of the inaugural three-match ODI series saw Virat Kohli make his return to the Indian ODI team with yet another brilliant century with 113 off 91 balls, as he smashed 12 fours and a single six against Sri Lanka. It was Virat's 73rd international century and 45th in ODI play.

So, King Kohli had a great start to his 2023, and his fans too. He entered the batting order at number three after captain Rohit Sharma with 83 off 67 balls and Shubman Gill with 70 off 60 balls were removed following an outstanding century-plus run.

Virat Kohli, however, not only maintained the momentum established by the opening batsmen but also increased the chances of winning the match. In the ODIs, he once again not only exceeded the three-figure mark but also shattered the Sri Lankan bowlers and team.

Virat Kohli just scored his ninth international century against Sri Lanka in ODIs. As a result, he also surpassed the great Sachin Tendulkar's previous record with 8 centuries against Sri Lanka.

As this was Kohli's 20th hundred in India, he also tied Master Blaster Tendulkar's record for the most centuries by an Indian batsman, who is the pride of India.

Along with that, he matched his personal record for most ODI hundreds against a single opponent or team. Kohli did this in just 101 matches as opposed to the 164 matches Tendulkar did.

Virat Kohli already has a record of 9 centuries against West Indies in ODIs and now he also scored 9 centuries against Sri Lankan Team.

You'll be amazed to know that Virat is within 5 ODI centuries behind Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most centuries in a 50-over format. Tendulkar's career total of 49 ODI hundreds is one less than Kohli's 45 ODI centuries.

This 73rd international century of Virat Kohli, brings him closer to being a batter, with second-most hundreds in cricket history, and putting him closer to Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 international centuries.

When India was playing with Bangladesh earlier, Kohli then scored a century in that ODI. It was 1214 days before the number 3 battery was produced a century. When he last hit a century in an ODI, the former captain of India left batting great Ricky Ponting in the dust.

With just 180 runs to go, he is in the top five of all-time ODI run scorers. Kohli has a chance to break another record. Only Ponting, Jayasuriya, Jayawardene, Sangakkara, Tendulkar, and Sangakkara are more accomplished than Kohli.

We all know that Virat will surely break many more ODI records as India has many ODIs over in the next coming days. We give him best wishes for his career and future.
