Dipa Karmakar Is Back Again
Dipa Karmakar is an Indian Gymnast. She was suspended a few months ago for twenty-one months as she tested positive for the substance named higenamine. She also said that she was unaware of how this substance entered her body.
She today confirmed her suspension by the higher authorities which is for around twenty-one months. The suspension will end on the 10th of July 2023. The substance which is found in her body is a restricted substance that an athlete cannot take on a strict basis.
The substance is Higenamine, and this helps the lungs in taking off more and more oxygen into the body through which the performance of athletes gets better. It acts as a stimulant that comes under the list of Beta-2 Agonists.
Today, Dipa Karmakar reacted to a post which was shared by ITA (International Testing Agency) regarding her ban and she wrote “two years back in the month of October, the sample of mine was taken and it was found that I had taken some prohibited substances.”
She also said that She was really unaware of the fact that the prohibited substance was there in her body and after the test, she was directly banned for twenty-one months. She also was not able to determine the source from where that substance entered her body.
Then she also said that after the suspension given by the higher authorities, she decided to move forward with whatever decision has been taken with the hope to get a resolution from the side of the higher federation.
She has also given the statement “Being in a situation where my ethics were called into question. It was more distressing than not knowing how the chemical entered my body. I have never considered using a restricted substance during my career in gymnastics.”
She also said that since her career in gymnastics, it is all she has and she would never do something to harm her reputation or that of her nation India. Dipa Karmakar was born on the 9th of August 1993 in Tripura. She is the first ever gymnast who appeared at the Olympic Games.
Dipa Karmakar gained attention when she won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games held in the year 2014, where she scored the highest in the Produnova vault. In 2015, she won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships which was held in Hiroshima.
Further, following her fourth-place performance at the Olympic Games held in Rio in 2016, she went on to win the World Cup. In 2018, she also achieved a gold medal at Artistic Gymnastics World Cup which was held in Mersin, and a bronze in the same year which took place in Cottbus.
In 2018, she also underwent knee surgery and she spent the majority of the year only recovering. She has not participated in any of the tournaments since the testing date which was provided by the ITA.
