Gilchrist’s tweet on IPL stirs controversy

India is facing difficult times as the number of daily Coronavirus cases is increasing at an alarming rate. At the same time country is undergoing a severe medical crisis due to a dearth of oxygen supply and beds across the hospitals. Amidst the situation, several renowned cricket personalities have been offering their sympathy to India.

Former Pakistan captain and current Prime Minister Imran Khan and former speedster Shoaib Akhtar were the first ones to extend their support to India and wish good health to the people. The latest to join the list is former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman and IPL winner Adam Gilchrist.

Gilchrist took to his official Twitter handle to offer his support to India. However, the tweet by the former Australian cricketer has also stirred controversy as Adam dragged the ongoing 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in between his tweet. The keeper highlighted the ‘frightening Covid numbers' across the nation while questioning whether conducting the T20 extravaganza is inappropriate or acts as an important distraction for the people. "Best wishes to all in India Flag of India Frightening Covid numbers. #IPL continues. Inappropriate? Or important distraction each night? Whatever your thoughts, prayers are with you,” Gilchrist shared a note-worthy tweet on the microblogging site.
