ICC optimistic about staging CT in Pakistan safely

Pakistan has been awarded to stage Champions Trophy in 2025. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is optimistic that even though decade-long skepticism among all the cricket-playing countries still prevails. Rather ICC feels staging the Champions Trophy will help Pakistan to return to mainstream cricket with prestige after more than two decades. Pakistan took part in hosting an ICC event as a co-host for the last time in 1996 when Pakistan and Sri Lanka were the co-hosts of the 50-over World Cup. The country has not been able to stage several ICC events since the terrorist attack in 2009 on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore. ICC Chair Greg Barclay has commented, "We think it is an exciting opportunity, a prospect for them (Pakistan) to host a world's event for the first time after a period of time."
