Joe Root Goes Over Virat Kohli For The First Time Since November 2017

England skipper Joe Root has finished ahead of Virat Kohli in the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings, for the first time since November 2017. Root is now 36 points behind top-ranked Kane Williamson (919) and trails second-placed Steve Smith (891) by eight points. The 30-year-old Englishman's 218 in the first Test against India in Chennai, has helped him advance two places to the third spot. Root has accumulated 684 runs in three Tests played in the sub-continent recently, with two of the games held in Sri Lanka. Kohli has slipped down one spot to the fifth position, with Marnus Labuschagne occupying the fourth spot.
