He also was not impressive in his debut in List ‘A’ match in the same year against Orange Free State, managing only one wicket in 9 overs at the cost of 22 runs. However, he took a couple of years to prove his mettle, and finally going by the statistics, he has claimed 192 wickets in 55 first-class matches including his best figure of 9wickets for 98 in a match.

Anrich Nortje had begun his journey in Test cricket against India in the second Test at Pune in 2019. The series was a part of the ICC World Test Championship. Virat Kohli stole all the glare of publicity having scored a mammoth unbeaten 254, destroying South African bowling. Naturally, Nortje, being a debutant had no answer to Kohli’s magnificent 254 and he gave away 100 runs in 25 overs without a wicket. India won the match by an innings and 137 runs. Nortje however has played in 8 Tests so far and claimed 30 wickets at an economy rate of 3.83 including his best figure in a Test of 8 wickets for 120 runs. Then representing Cape Town Blitz in his inaugural Mzansi T20 Premier League in 2017-18 Nortje's lightning speed helped him to earn 8 wickets in three matches. But his success did not last as he was ruled out of the tournament due to a severe ankle injury he had to undergo surgery. Having played Twenty20 matches in domestic cricket Nortje has claimed 50 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 7.88 while his best in the format has been 4 for 19. Nortje made his debut in the T20 International match against Mohali in 2019. Nortje was expensive with 27 runs in 3 overs without a wicket. He has claimed only 3 wickets in 5 T20Is so far.
