Ankit Rajpoot is an Indian cricketer. He was born on 4th December 1993 in Kanpur.

The 27-year-old cricketer is primarily a right-arm medium pacer and is a left-hand batsman. Rajpoot earned appreciation from former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad. Prasad was the coach of Uttar Pradesh for two years.

Early signs

Ankit Rajpoot made his debut in first-class cricket Uttar Pradesh against Karnataka in a Ranji Trophy match in 2012 at Meerut. In his maiden appearance, Rajpoot was not so impressive, scalping one for 49 in 14 overs in the first innings and two for 52 runs in 22 overs. But finally, he showed his potential in that season, picking up 31 wickets in seven matches at an average of 18. Considering the first-class cricket, Rajpoot has picked up 215 wickets in 63 matches at an economy rate of 3.01 including his bowling figure of 10 for 97 in a match. Ankit made his debut in List ‘A’ cricket in 2013 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Rajasthan. Rajpoot scalped two wickets, giving away 31 runs in 7 overs. Rajpoot has taken part in 36 List ‘A’ matches and picked up 48 wickets including his best figure of 4 for 36 runs.

Rajpoot has played for four teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. In his maiden appearance in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings in 2013 against Mumbai Indians, Rajpoot had memorable moments when he bowled Mumbai captain Ricky Ponting in his first over. But he played only two matches for Chennai Super Kings and claimed 2 wickets that season. Then having represented Kolkata Knight Riders in 2016 and the next year, Rajpoot was bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2018 for Rs 3 crores. He earned man-of-the-match also from Punjab, claiming 5 for 14 in 4 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Last year, Rajpoot was signed by Rajasthan Royals. Rajpoot has claimed 24 wickets in 29 matches so far.

T20 Career

Ankit Rajpoot made his debut in the Twenty20 format of the game in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2013 at Nagpur. Even though Rajpoot was expensive, giving away 24 runs in 3 overs, scalped 2 wickets. Uttar Pradesh won the match by 8 wickets with 8 balls remaining. After three years in 2016, he also established himself as one of the promising T20 bowlers, being the third-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets at an average of 14.21. Having participated in 82 T20 matches Rajpoot has claimed 101 wickets at an economy rate of 7.76 including his best figure of 5 for 14.
