Aniruddha Joshi overview

Aniruddha Joshi is an Indian cricketer who was born on 7th November 1987 in Bangalore. The 33-year old cricketer is a right-hand off-break bowler and a right-hand batsman.

Joshi’s uncle is former Indian international Sunil Joshi who also was a left-arm spinner. Joshi has revealed that his uncle Sunil Joshi has been his constant support and even today when Aniruddha playing the main-stream cricket Sunil Joshi gives him valuable advices whenever Aniruddha calls him.

Early signs

Aniruddha Joshi ha started playing cricket at the age of 14. His first coach was his father. But he did not have a least percentage of infrastructural support at his village Gadag. So Joshi had moved to Hubli and admitted to a proper cricket coaching centre there. Then his career saw some ray of hope as Joshi had represented under-17 Karnataka and then under-19 state team. But during that phase Joshi had to do tremendous hard work, travelling from Gadag to KSCA academy everyday early in the morning and after a rigorous three-hour training there Joshi used to each school. Aniruddha made his debut in List ‘A’ cricket against Railways in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match in 2015. In his maiden List ‘A’ match Joshi scalped 2 wickets at the cost of31 runs in 8.2 overs and with the bat he got out at zero. However, Joshi has participated in 17 List ‘A’ matches so far and picked up 6 wickets at the cost of 134 runs while he has scored 211 runs including his highest score of 68.

Aniruddha Joshi was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2018 IPL auction. He had revealed later that he never expected he would be one of the two from Karnataka to be bought by RCB Joshi was giving an examination for a job at State Bank of India. Naturally, one of Virat Kohli’s admirers Aniruddha was also thrilled and he stated that after his examination was over he found out 40 missed calls in his cell phone. Joshi however was not played in a single match for RCB. After a brief 2-year stint with RCB, Joshi was purchased by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2020 at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. This was his reward of scoring more than 200 runs in Karnataka Premier League including a swift 125-run score. But he also did not get chance of playing a single match for RR. However, the player has been retained by the same franchise team for 2021 IPL.

T20 Career

Aniruddha Joshi made his debut in Twenty20 domestic tournament in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match in 2011. He scored 16 off 17 deliveries and picked up 3 for 23 in 4 overs. He has played in 22 T20 matches and scored 420 runs including his highest score of unbeaten 73 but with the ball he has managed only 6 wickets in as many matches.
