Joe Burns overview

Joseph Anthony Burns commonly known as Joe Burns is an Australian Cricketer who was born on 6th September 1989, currently plays for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League and for Queensland in Australian domestic cricket. Joe made an exceptional debut in First-class cricket scoring 140 runs for Sheffield Shield against South Australia in February 2011.

In the 2017–18 Sheffield Shield season, Joe scored his maiden first-class double century, batting for Queensland against South Australia. Cricket Australia named Joe in their Sheffield Shield team of the year in March 2018. In 2019, he was included in the Lancashire squad ahead of the 2019 County Championship in England but he had to return for personal reasons after making only one appearance.

Early signs

In December 2014, Mitchell Marsh was suffering an injury ahead of the Boxing Day Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Therefore, Joe was selected for the Australian team as a replacement for the injured player. He made his Test debut on 26th December 2014. He made his first One Day International appearance for Australia against Ireland on 27th August 2015 in Stormont, Northern Ireland. He scored a half century in his ODI debut.

ODI Career

Joe’s ODI debut resulted a good start for him as he scored a half century on debut, which was against Ireland on 27th August 2015 in Stormont, Northern Ireland. He has played 6 ODI matches from which he has scored 146 runs at a strike rate of 79.35.

Test career

Joe made his Test debut against India on 26th December 2014, where he batted at no. 6 and scored 13 runs but then he managed to score 2 half centuries in his second test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He has played 21 matches from which he has scored 1379 runs at a strike rate of 56.68.

ICC Trophies

On 28 March 2018, due to the ball tempering incident Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were suspended and Joe was recalled urgently for the Australian Tour of South Africa 2018 and Joe burns is also selected for the India tour of Australia 2020 in the Australian Test squad.
