Early signs

Romario Shephard made his debut in the List 'A' cricket for Guyana in January 2016. He played against the Leeward Islands. Guyana won the match held at Basseterre by seven wickets with 22 balls remaining and along with former West Indies Test batsman Shivnaraine Chanderpaul, Shephard also played an instrumental role in guiding his team towards victory. Chanderpaul struck a patient 57 off 85 balls while Romario acquired an impressive 10 overs 37 runs and 3 wickets to break the opposition batting. More interestingly, Shephard snatched the man-of-the-match award in his maiden List 'A' debut. Romario Shephard had begun his journey in first-class cricket in the very next year in 2017 for Guyana against strong Jamaica in the Regional Four-Day competition. The 26-year-old fast bowler although was not up to the expectation still managed to bag 2 wickets from 59 runs from his 16 overs and he scored 16 runs playing 40 deliveries. Romario has taken part in 25 first-class matches so far and has gathered 74 wickets at an economy rate of 3.09 where his highest score was 5 for 24. Romario however has scored 793 runs from his 25 matches in first-class cricket including a century (133) which has been his top score so far in the first-class matches.

ODI Career

Romario Shephard ensured a berth in the West Indies senior team in October 2019 for the One Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan. The series was held at Lucknow. West Indies won the match by seven wickets with 21 balls remaining. Romario Shephard scalped 2 wickets for 62 runs from his 6.2 overs. Shephard has so far taken part in ODIs and has not been impressive yet as he has able to gather only 4 wickets giving away 174 runs with an economy rate of 4.53.

T20 Career

Romario Shephard was called into the West Indies squad for the Twenty20 International series against Ireland this year January. The fast bowler has already been playing in T20 matches for Guyana Amazon Warriors since 2018. He also earned his place in the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the Caribbean Premier League this year. Shephard’s statistics in the T20 format of the game is yet to flourish as he has captured 25 wickets from his 24 T20 matches giving away 549 runs so far where his best performance is 4 wickets for 13 and with the bat he has scored 89 runs in as many matches including the highest score of unbeaten 32. The bowler however in his maiden T20 International match against Ireland at Basseterre was able to capture only one wicket giving away 38 runs with an expensive economy rate of 9.50. Shephard has participated in only three T20 International matches and claimed only 2 wickets at the cost of 75 runs.
