Kyle Jamieson is a right-arm fast bowler from New Zealand. He was born on 30th December 1994 in Auckland. He is the tallest person to have played for New Zealand in international cricket with six feet eight inches in height.

Considering the fast bowlers in the world of cricket Jamieson is one of the tallest fast bowlers also. Jamieson has earned repute for his ability to get an awkward bounce. His bowling action is also frightening as he delivers full-length delivery, hooping on the stumps.

Early signs

Kyle Jamieson, being born and brought up in Auckland, represents the city in domestic cricket, even nowadays. But he was able to bring his name to the notice of experts when he was representing Canterbury. Even he failed to impress in his maiden first-class match for Canterbury against Wellington in 2014, being wicket-less in his 22 overs at the cost of 70 expensive runs. In his opening match of the ‘List A’ cricket against Wellington in the Ford Trophy Jamieson also had the same predicament as he had to become wicket-less from his 4 overs at the cost of 23 runs. Still, the 26-year-old pacer did not give up and he returned with an inspiring performance in the Super Smash competition in 2019 for Canterbury. He had picked up 6 wickets for only 7 runs in four overs which is a record. Only three bowlers are ahead of him in the list in the world of cricket. Jamieson became the highest wicket-taker in the Super Smash last year by capturing 22 wickets from 10 matches. In first-class cricket, Jamieson has participated in 32 matches and accumulated 112 wickets with an economy rate of 3.10 including his best figure of 11 wickets for 160 runs in a match. Talking about the performance in 'List A' cricket Jamieson has captured 40 wickets from 30 matches so far. With the bat, Jamieson has 711 runs in first-class cricket where he has scored five fifties also.

ODI Career

Kyle Jamieson made his debut in the One Day International against India in the 2nd ODI at Auckland in February this year. In his maiden ODI Jamieson bagged 2 wickets giving away 42 runs in 10 overs. However, New Zealand won the match by 22 runs. Having participated in only two ODIs Jamieson has taken 3 wickets so far.

Test career

Kyle Jamieson was named in the New Zealand squad for the Test series against Australia in 2019 but he did not play. This year finally the fast bowler made his debut in Test. He had an excellent show in the first innings of his maiden Test at Wellington. He scalped 4 wickets including the desired wicket of Virat Kohli in his 16 overs at the cost of 39 runs only although he was wicket-less in the second innings despite having bowled 19 overs. He gave 45 runs and earned seven maiden overs. Jamieson was also in wonderful form in his last Test against West Indies at Wellington in December this year. His figure in the first innings was 13-34-5. In the second innings also, Jamieson picked up 2 wickets for 43 runs from his 15 overs. The fast bowler has participated in four Tests so far and he has picked up 20 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 2.64 including his best bowling of 7 wickets for 77 runs in a match.

Kyle Jamieson had begun his journey in the T20 International in November this year against West Indies at Auckland. New Zealand won the match by five wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis method. Jamieson did not get a wicket from his 3 overs giving away 26 expensive runs. He has so far taken part in four T20Is and earned 3 wickets while in the T20 game Jamieson has already bagged 49 wickets from 33 matches including the best figure of 6 wickets for 7 runs in an innings.
