Early signs

Junior Dala started his journey in First-class cricket in the Provincial Three-Day Challenge competition for Gauteng in 2011. Dala earned applauds in his maiden First-class appearance by scalping 3 wickets in the first innings giving away 49 runs while captured 1 wicket in the second innings at the cost of 34 runs in only 6 overs. Dala during his stint with Unlimited Titans in South African domestic cricket had former South African international Mark Boucher as the coach. Boucher along with Dala’s teammate Albie Morkel had significantly played important role in developing Dala by inspiring him to bowl for wickets. They never advised Dala to try to look for his economy rate. Dala’s performance in the 'List A' game reflects the philosophy where it is noticed that the pacer has been capturing two wickets on an average in every ‘List A’ game. However, in his debut in ‘List A’ game in 2012 for Gauteng in the Three-Day One Day competition, Dala became wicket-less. But ultimately, Dala has impressive 107 wickets from 75 matches in the ‘List A’ cricket while in First-class game, Dala, having participated in 57 matches has bagged 151 wickets including his best figure of 9 for 79 in a match.

ODI Career

Junior Dala had played in his first One-Day International match against Sri Lanka, the 4th ODI at Kandy during South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the match by 3 runs based on the Duckworth-Lewis method. Junior Dala also failed to shine, being wicket-less from his 8 overs at the cost of 64 runs. The 31-year old bowler has so far participated in two ODIs and has been able to gather only 1 wicket.

IPL career

Dala has played only a single match in the IPL tournament against RCB - Bangalore for DC - Delhi on May 12, 2018.

T20 Career

Junior Dala made his debut in Twenty20 International two years ago in 2018 against India at Johannesburg. Although India won the match by 28 runs Dala captured 2 wickets from his 4 overs but gave away 47 runs. He took the prize wicket of Rohit Sharma. His economy rate was 11.75 and in most of the matches, Dala had to face the only difficulty that he could not control his economy rate. Still, the fast bowler, having participated in 9 T20Is so far, has been able to capture 13 wickets at an economy rate of 9.40.

ICC Trophies

One of Dala’s memorable incident happened last year when in a popular South African T20 competition, Mzansi Super League, Dala’s inimitable Yorker delivery uprooted Chris Gayle’s stumps which looked flying in the air. Gayle had no reply to Dala’s magnificent delivery and had to return to the pavilion scoring just 11 runs off 9 deliveries.
