Early signs

Paarl is popular for being a sporting town. Bjorn Fortuin also became passionate about cricket since his childhood. Being relentlessly inspired by his mother, Bjorn Fortuin had made his debut in First-class cricket for North-West in 2013. Fortuin in his younger days had regularly watched the matches of Cape Cobras at Boland Park. He later revealed he was being inspired by Henry Davids, one of the notable former cricketers in South African domestic cricket. Later, Bjorn had signed with Cobras and expressed great admiration saying that his dream came true in playing with his childhood inspiration Henry Davids in Domestic cricket. Bjorn, having played in 46 matches so far, has claimed 121 wickets with his best figure in a match of 8 wickets for 58 runs. In the ‘List A’ cricket also, Bjorn has captured 63 wickets from his 56 matches so far.

T20 Career

Bjorn Fortuin has been performing in the shortest format of the game for a long time. Since his debut with North West against Gauteng in the CSA Provincial Twenty20 league in 2014 where Fortuin bagged 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs, the left-arm spinner has gained a lot of maturity in the T20 matches. He was the leading wicket-taker in the CSA T20 Challenge Cup, picking up 15 wickets in 10 matches. As a reward, Fortuin was declared the CSA T20 Challenge Player of the Year in 2019. Fortuin has been one of South Africa's best promising cricketers to have maintained the economy rate under 7 (6.44) throughout the 66 T20 matches he has played so far. He has bagged 76 wickets from 66 matches so far. His consistent show in the domestic T20 game had steered him to join the Mzansi Super League where he was bought by Paarl Rocks for a value of Rs. 550,000. His conspicuous show in the domestic T20 has helped Fortuin to get a national call to play against India in the T20 International series last year at Mohali, Chandigarh. Fortuin, although was not much impressive, bagged only one wicket at the cost of 32 runs from his four overs. Bjorn Fortuin has played in four T20Is and claimed 3 wickets only.
