Dwaine Pretorius overview

Dwaine Pretorius who is a cricketer from South African was born on 29th March 1989 at Randfontein. He is called an all-rounder but he could bowl at a sheer speed of 140 kilometers per hour in his early days of cricket and was a useful lower-order batsman. In the time after Jacques Kallis said goodbye to cricket, South African cricket was looking towards the rise of Pretorius in international cricket. His away swingers as well as effective batting in the lower order carried him to the senior national squad for international exposure.

But Dwaine Pretorius has been plagued by injuries from the beginning of cricket days. Despite having got the call-up for South Africa’s under-19 squad for the under-19 World Cup in 2008 the 31-year old all-rounder was not able to get into the playing eleven as he had torn cartilage in his right knee. Pretorius, being frustrated with continuous injuries had decided to leave cricket and set focus on study and he did it for the next years.

After three years, Pretorius accomplished with a degree in accounting, returned to cricket to test his luck in the sport for another time, and gradually settled himself in the eyes of national selectors. Pretorius having realized about his injuries, had given up striving for speed in his bowling. Rather he tried to follow Vernon Philander’s accuracy by reducing his bowling speed and tried to introduce more variety and control in his swing bowling. Last year Dwaine Pretorius had once decided to move to England signing a Kolpak deal with Nottinghamshire and finally represent England in international cricket. But ultimately he changed his decision of staying back in South Africa after being convinced and offered a contract by former South African international cricketer Graeme Smith, the new interim director of Cricket South Africa.
