Lutho Sipamla overview

Lutho Sipamla is a cricketer from South Africa. He was born on 12th May 1988 at Port Elizabeth. The 22-year old right-arm fast bowler is being regarded as one of the most promising fast bowlers in South Africa. He has shown the ability to bowl at an amazing speed of 145 kilometers per hour consistently. His bowling has another unique feature that he can deliver deadly balls into the batsmen's block-hole. Lutho Sipanla studied at Grey High School at Port Elizabeth. The school that had a great sporting history, had presented some great cricketers of South Africa like Peter Pollack and Graeme Pollock and John Botha and the current left-arm fast bowler Wayne Parnell as well as the current South African national rugby team captain Siya Kolisi. Lutho also had a passion for the game since his school days and fast bowling was his natural from those early days.

Early signs

Lutho Sipamla made his debut in first-class cricket playing for Eastern Province in 2017 against Border. He although could not exhibit eye-catching performance, scalped 2 wickets at the cost of 51 runs from his 14 overs. But gradually, Lutho developed his bowling for Eastern Province, capturing 50 wickets in 18 First-class matches including two five-wicket hauls. His sparkling show in a First-class match pushed him to the South African under-17 squad for the Bangladesh tour in 2015 and then he earned a place in the under-19 South African squad for the under-19 World Cup in 2016. But Lutho had to go through tough times in the Bangladesh tour as well as in the under-19 World Cup also. On the slow sub-continent turfs, Lutho Sipamla failed to make an impact. He could manage only 3 wickets in the whole tour of Bangladesh and the under-19 World Cup. Still, the fast bowler did not give up and continued hard work to prove his mettle in the country's premier domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, Mzansi League. He became the joint-leading wicket-taker for the team with 16 wickets from 10 matches.

ODI Career

Lutho Sipamla had begun his One-Day International journey this year against England at Cape Town. However, the bowler was not impressive as he picked up only one wicket at the cost of 40 runs in 7 overs. He has taken part in four ODIs and has been able to pick up only 2 wickets.

Test career

Lutho Sipamla made his debut in Test against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Centurion and in his maiden Test Sipamla demonstrated a dazzling performance, scalping 4 wickets giving away 76 runs in 16 overs. He has so far participated in 2 Tests and captured 10 wickets.
