Pite van Biljon overview

Pite van Biljon is a South African cricketer who was born on 15th April 1986 at Bloemfontein in Orange Free State. He is a wicket-keeper and right-hand batsman.

Biljon was plagued by COVID-19 as well as he had to undergo an operation at shoulder in the early of the last year. However, one of the regular members of Knights Club in Orange Free State has returned to cricket overcoming all odds.

The 34-year old wicket-keeper batsman in a recent interaction with media has paid all attributes to the head coach of Knight Club, the legendary Allan Donald who also had played in for Knights Club in the country's domestic cricket throughout his career. Bilon said that Donald's encouragement and advice after he joined the nets has been a great boost to come back to mainstream cricket.

Early signs

Pite van Biljon me his debut in first-class cricket in 2006 for Northerns against North-West in the CSA Three-Day Provincial Challenge competition. But he got out for only 11 runs in 21 deliveries he had faced in the first innings and 9 runs in the second innings in his opening match. However, Biljon developed his skill, and ultimately having participated in 106 fist-class matches he has amassed 6856 runs at an average of 43.11 and struck 18 centuries including the highest score of 218. Biljon also made his debut in the List ‘A’ game in the same year in 2006 for Northerns against Orange Free State in the Provincial Cup and drew attention by scoring 63 runs off 63 deliveries including 12 fours. In the List ‘A’ cricket also Biljon has gathered 2963 runs from 103 matches at an average of 34.45. He has scored four centuries including his best score of unbeaten 167.

Pite van Biljon has not yet played in Test and One-Day International (ODI). Rather he has begun his journey in the Twenty20 International, playing the 1st T20I against Australia at Johannesburg in February last year. But Biljon failed to shine, staying on the crease for only 26 minutes before being out for only 16 runs off 15 deliveries. However, Biljon has scored 31 runs from his 5 T20Is.

In South Africa’s domestic T20 circuit Biljon has participated in 71 matches so far and scored 1324 runs at an average of 31.52. His highest run in a T20 match has been unbeaten 75.
