Rassie van der Dussen overview

Rassie van der Dussen was born on 7th February 1989 at Pretoria in Transvaal. The South African cricketer is a right-hand top-order batsman and occasionally bowls leg-break. The 31-year old batsman can be called one of the very few cricketers in South Africa who has experience of playing the game in different countries. Along with South Africa, Dussen has played cricket in England, Ireland, Netherlands, Canada, and the Caribbean country also. Playing the game in different countries has made him not only experienced but also a dynamic batsman that stole the attention of the national selectors.

Rassie van der Dussen has an interesting story that he was one of the change-room attendants for the South African team that was playing against England at Centurion in 2009. After a span of 10 years, the same Rassie van der Dussen made it possible, ensuring a place in the South African Test squad, in the same Centurion, and against England. Dussen, in his reaction to the media, did not hide his emotion saying that 16th December, the day he received the call to join the national team would be ever memorable to him. He remembered saying he had worked as a change-room attendant as the 14th man of the squad 10 years ago and he also became emotional while saying that how he was inspired by the greats he met at the dressing room like Boucher, Kallis, Graeme Smith.

But during the 10 years, it was not an easy journey for van der Dussen. In a desperate effort to establish himself as a cricketer van der Dussen moved from Pretoria to Potchefstroom to play for the provincial North-West and his journey began at Northerns without any financial contract.
