Lewis Gregory overview

Lewis Gregory is an English cricketer who was born on 24th May 1992 in Plymouth. The 28-year old cricketer is an all-rounder. He is a right-hand batsman and right-arm medium pacer. Lewis Gregory is one of those cricketers in England who came close to international cricket without being capped officially. He was selected in England's Test squad for a match against Ireland in Dublin. But finally, he did not play the match and Lewis Gregory has not yet made his debut in Test cricket. In 2015 Lewis Gregory had been suffering from a severe back injury and he was taking injections regularly. He had been continuing with the injury for around the next two years. But finally, he had to undergo severe surgery in 2017 to cure his consistent back injury and he was ruled out of the game for some months. But determination and hard work brought Gregory again in the mainstream cricket.

Gregory has already earned a reputation for his controlled swing bowling. Earlier, he concentrated on batting mainly but later he developed his bowling also.

Early signs

Lewis Gregory had played the game regularly in his youth, representing Devon County Cricket Club from the under-13 to under-17 level. Throughout 2006 and 2007 Lewis Gregory played as a batsman mainly while he used to bowl occasionally during that phase. He converted himself to bowler also along with batting since 2008, finishing the season with 20 wickets for Plympton. He also represented the second eleven of Somerset County for the first time in that same year in 2008. In the next year in 2009, Gregory became the highest wicket-taker of Plympton, scalping 36 wickets including two five-wicket hauls. Then he continued to play for Somerset Second eleven, occasionally playing for Devon County club. Lewis Gregory made his debut in first-class cricket for Somerset's first team against Worcestershire in the first division county match in 2011. But he was a failure in his maiden first-class match, being out for a duck and only one wicket in the first innings and only 2 runs and wicket-less in the second innings. However, Lewis Gregory, maturing his game later after a couple of years, has gathered 2569 runs from his 89 first-class matches at an average of 21.58 including two centuries and eight fifties where his best score has been 137. Gregory has also claimed 282 wickets in as many matches in first-class cricket. In the List 'A' game also, Lewis Gregory, having participated in 76 matches has amassed 2941 runs with an unbeaten 105 to his name as well as he has bagged 106 wickets in as many matches so far.

ODI Career

Lewis Gregory was selected in the England squad for the one-off One-Day International match against Ireland in 2015. But he missed the match due to persistent injury.

T20 Career

Gregory was showing better performance in the Twenty20 format and was bought by Rangpur Rangers in Bangladesh Premier League in 2019 and this year Lewis Gregory had played in Pakistan Premier League for Peshawar Zalmi. He made his debut in the T20 International match in the 1st T20 against New Zealand in Christchurch last year. But he did not get the scope of bowling and batting. Lewis Gregory has so far taken part in eight T20Is and scored only 35 runs while with the ball he has managed to pick up only one wicket.

Apart from his international career, Gregory has played in 120 T20 matches and scored 1564 runs at a strike rate of 146.44, and has captured 115 wickets with the best bowling of 4 wickets for 15 runs to his name in a match.
