Early signs

Liam Living started playing cricket at Barrow Cricket Club. His mother used to inspire him all the time whenever he used to go to the club nets, accompanying him. The club was around 30 yards from his home. Livingstone was extremely reluctant to continue his study. He never wanted to attend classes at University. Rather his instinct drove him towards Lancashire. His wish was fulfilled as Livingstone was signed by Lancashire academy and there he started improving gradually. Livingstone made his debut in first-class cricket for Lancashire in the County Championship against Nottinghamshire in 2016 and drew attention with an excellent 70 off 124 deliveries. The batsman had later revealed that former England international Ashley Giles deserved the credit for his debut in first-class cricket as Giles, the director at Lancashire cricket, gave him the chance. Already in the year before in 2015 Livingstone had hogged the limelight by scoring 305 runs off just 138 balls for Nantwich and that is still recorded as one of the highest individual scores in the limited-over cricket history. He had also shined in 2013, hitting centuries in all formats against Lancashire’s traditional rivals in English cricket Yorkshire including a 47-ball century with 10 sixes. Even, making a debut in List 'A' cricket in 2015 in the Royal London One-Day Cup against Kent, Livingstone put a solid impact by scoring 91 runs off 88 deliveries with six fours and three sixes. Livingstone was awarded county-cap following his consistent show with Lancashire as stand-in skipper in 2017 and he also was awarded Lancashire's captain for the next season. However, that year did not go well with Livingstone at all. He had broken his thumb in a match against Roses. The result was obvious as Livingstone's batting collapsed completely. He failed to score even a 50 as Lancashire was relegated that year under his captaincy. Liam Livingstone, having played 56 first-class matches so far, has gathered 2992 runs at an average of 40. 98. He has scored seven centuries and 15 fifties so far. His best score in first-class cricket has been 224. That was against Warwickshire at Old Trafford in 2017. In the List ‘A’ cricket Livingstone has scored 1552 runs from 55 matches at an average of 36.09.

The right-hand batsman also had represented Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League in 2019 and in four matches he participated, Livingstone scored 71 runs including the best score of 44. In a bid to set his focus on first-class cricket one of England's most hard-hitting batsmen had pulled out of the auction for the IPL 2020.

T20 Career

Liam Livingstone had begun his journey in the shortest format of the game in 2015 against Leicestershire in NatWest t20 Blast. But Livingstone failed to burst, being out for only 15 runs off 12 deliveries. But in due course, the right-hand batsman generated confidence among the selectors and expectation among the fans. Despite having failed in his opening match in the NatWest Blast T20 with the broken thumb, Livingstone recovered and returned with vigor in the finals and did a blitzkrieg, scoring a century in just 49 balls. Livingstone made his debut in the Twenty20 International match in the second T20I at Taunton against South Africa in 2017. But he was run out for 16 runs only. Livingstone has played only two T20Is and scored 16 runs so far.
