Early signs
Since the age of 13, Ben Foakes showed his potential as a wicket-keeper but due to James Foster, the first-choice wicket-keeper of Essex, Ben was not getting chances regularly. He made his first-class debut for Essex in 2011 against touring Sri Lanka. He was not able to score, being out for only 5 runs but took three catches from behind the stumps. He left Essex at the end of 2014, seeking further opportunities with Surrey. His decision proved fruitful as it was becoming hard to motivate playing only as a batsman in Essex. He got the opportunity to undergo training from former wicket-keeping coach, Bruce French while practicing with the England age-group team and Ben Foakes again revamped himself to prosper with wicket-keeping. However, Ben Foakes has played 111 first-class matches and scored 5701 runs at an average of 38.78 including 10 centuries and 31 fifties. He also has amassed 1941 runs from his 73 List ‘A’ matches where his best score has been 92. Foakes also had an impressive show in the under-19 World Cup in 2012 having scored 93 on championship debut. As its reflection, Ben Foakes was picked up in England Lion’s squad in 2012-13 at a time when he had not even made his debut in List ‘A’ cricket.

Foakes, not only exhibiting the brilliant keeping behind the stumps, dished out a classy 107 off 202 deliveries on his debut in Test cricket. England won the series 3-0.
