Dan Lawrence overview

Dan Lawrence is an English cricketer. He is primarily a right-hand batsman and occasionally bowls right-arm off-spin. He was born in Essex on 12th July 1997.

Lawrence has been regarded as one of the most promising batsmen in England after he placed himself in the history as third-youngest to make a championship century, cracking 161 for Essex at Oval against at the age of 15 years.

Early signs

Dan Lawrence is the product of Chingford Cricket Club. His father was a grounds-man there at the club. Lawrence who explored several batting techniques since his childhood with the help of his father since his early age made his debut in first-class cricket for Essex in 2017. Lawrence's consistent show helped Essex acquire promotion for the First Division County Championship that season after 25 years. Lawrence was named as Young Cricketer of the Year by Cricket Writer' Club following the batsman's superb 761 runs including three hundreds at an average of 44.76. Dan Lawrence has played in 76 first-class matches and scored 4047 runs at an average of 37.82 including 10 centuries and 19 fifties. He also has gathered 752 runs in only 28 List ‘A’ matches including his best score of 115. Dan Lawrence also had a splendid beginning in the under-19 World Cup in 2016. In the opening match of the competition, Lawrence struck 174 off 150 balls against Fiji, the highest score by an English batsman in the youth level of One Day International.

Test career

Dan Lawrence had begun his journey in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2021. Lawrence, in his maiden appearance in Test, struck a patient 73 off 130 deliveries, hitting 6 fours and a huge six. In the second innings, he remained unbeaten 21. England won the Test by seven wickets. Dan Lawrence has so far scored 99 runs in the two Tests at an average of 33 including his top score of 73.

Dan Lawrence has been participating in the Twenty20 format of the game since his debut in 2015 for Essex against Surrey. Lawrence is yet to make his debut in Twety20 International and One Day International (ODI) has played 64 Twenty20 matches so far and scored 1317 runs at a strike rate of 139.21 including his top score of 86.
