Early signs
Balbirinie, having made his first century in first-class cricket in 2017 against the Netherlands in the ICC Intercontinental Cup, drew attention in the next year being the highest run-scorer with 262 runs in only six matches. Balbirinie, having played in 30 first-class matches has amassed 1296 runs at an average of 33 including two centuries and eight half-centuries.

His impressive performance so far has been in ODI. Balbirinie has participated in 75 ODIs and gathered 2122 runs at an average of 31.20 including six centuries and 10 half-centuries.
Test career
Balbirinie who was offered a 'central contract' on a full-time basis along with his 18 other countrymates by Cricket Ireland in 2019, also became the captain of Ireland's Test and One-Day International (ODI) squad after William Porterfield quit captaincy. The batsman has got the scope of playing in three Test matches so far and scored 146 runs.
