Early signs

Dhananjaya de Silva drew the attention of his national selectors in 2015 following a superb domestic season that helped him ensure a place in the national squad. De Silva first became the highest scorer in the Super T20 Provincial Tournament in early 2016, with 234 runs in six innings. Then he turned out a star of Tamil Union's first victorious first-class campaign in 55 years, gathering 868 runs at 54.20 including an important fourth-innings 121 in the match that guided the team towards the title. Dhananjaya de Silva finished the competition being the highest wicket-taker as a part-time off-spinner that season, claiming 32 wickets at 14.23.

ODI Career

In the ODI, de Silva has scored 895 runs in 45 matches including his highest score of 84.

Test career

The first-class cricket numbers helped earn him his first call-up to Sri Lanka's Test squad - for the England tour in May and June 2016. The all-rounder, having made his debut in Test in 2016 against Australia created a record on his debut, hitting a six in the first delivery to become the first Sri Lankan cricketer. However, de Silva has scored 2253 runs in 36 Tests including seven centuries.

Despite being picked up in the national squad for the Twenty20 international series against Pakistan in 2015, De Silva was not able to impress as a promising in the shortest format initially, although he scored 45 off 47 balls across two innings. But since then de Silva’s journey in the shortest format was an ardent thriving. De Silva has scored 331 runs in 16 T20Is at a strike rate of 109.96.
