Overview
The Sri Lankan cricket team is set to tour England in June and July 2021 to play three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches on the English soil. Interestingly, this ODI series is set to form an integral part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Earlier, it was decided that before the T20I series, Sri Lanka would be playing two one-day practice matches against Kent and Sussex. However, due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the England, and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Sri Lanka will now play intra-squad matches instead, keeping in mind the safety of all the players. So, the first T20 international will take place on 23rd June at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff at 10:30 pm, the second T20 is also going to take place at the same venue on June 24th , same time, while the third T20 will take place on 26th June at the Rose Bowl, Southampton at 7:00 PM.
The ODI series is set to begin 3 days later on June 29th , with the first match taking place at the Riverside Ground, Chester-Le-Street. The second ODI will be played on 1st July at the Kennington Oval, London while the second match will be played at the County Ground, Bristol. England Coach Chris Silverwood has said that he will miss the ODI series against Sri Lanka as part of England's rest-and-rotation policy. The England head coach has handed over the responsibility to assistants Thorpe and Collingwood during the busy season.
