Overview

The Sri Lankan cricket team toured West Indies to take part in two Tests, three One-Day International matches and three Twenty20 International matches. The Tests were termed as the inaugural part of ICC World Test championship while the ODI series has been framed under the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. The series took place between 3 rd March and 2 nd April. Sri Lanka tour of West Indies, 2021 before its commencement had to face some critical situation as in February this year Sri Lanka coach Micky Arthur and cricketer Lahiru Thiramanne returned positive COVID-19 test and the result was that several media posting that the series had been deferred indefinitely. But rubbishing all the reports, the series began on 3 rd March. However, in the Sri Lanka tour of West Indies, 2021 the two-test series ended in 2-2 draw. Kraigg Brathwaite was the leading run-scorer with 237 while Lahiru Thiramane became the top scorer for Sri Lanka scoring 240 runs in the series. In the bowling department, Kemar Roch listed himself on the top with 9 wickets while Suranga Lakmal became the highest wicket-taker, having scalped 11 wickets. Lakmal also earned player of the series award.

In the ODI series West Indies whitewashed the visitors 3-0. Shai Hope, one of the most promising Caribbean batsmen hogged limelight being the highest scorer in the series with 258 runs. Danushka Gunathilaka became the leading run-scorer from Sri Lanka’s part with 187 runs. Hope snatched Player of the Series award. However, Jason Mohammed of West Indies became the leading wicket- taker in the series with 6 wickets while Thisara Perera managed only 3 wickets to become Sri Lanka’s maximum wicket-taker. In the Sri Lanka tour of West Indies, 2021 the T20 series saw little excitement as West Indies won the first T20I by 4 wickets while Sri Lanka bounced back, winning the 2 nd T20I by 43 runs to equal the series 1-1. But West Indies had the last laugh when they won the final and third T20I by 3 wickets. Lendl Simmons scored the most runs (73) in the three-match T20I series while for Sri Lanka Pathum Nissaka became the leading run-scorer with 81. Wanindu Hasanranga from Sri Lanka impressed, scalping 8 wickets while Obed McCoy for West Indies managed only 4 wickets in the series.
