There was an era when a cricket jersey meant wearing a white T-shirt and a white trouser to go along with it. As decades passed by, slowly and steadily we started seeing colors on the jerseys, then we witnessed the time when players started wearing their special numbers on the back of printed T-shirts which had the name of sponsors printed on them. Time evolved, so did world cricket.  

Recently in 2019, right before the world test championship started, the official Instagram handle of the Indian cricket team revealed the jersey numbers of the players through their stories. The introduction of Cricket jersey numbers behind the Test Cricket jerseys has been criticized by many formal players such as Kevin Pietersen, Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar. International Cricket Council (ICC) took the decision to introduce Cricket jersey numbers in the longest format of the game to make it more appealing to the youth and indicated that this tradition would be followed throughout the World Test Championship
