Olympic medalists from India for Tokyo 2020
● Women's welterweight Lovlina Borgohain earned a bronze medal
After
falling to the top-seeded Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the ladies' 69 kg
semifinals on her game debut, Lovlina Borgohain captured a bronze medal at
Tokyo 2020. So that she could guarantee herself a medal, Lovlina Borgohain
defeated Chinese Taipei's Nien-Chin Chen in the quarterfinals.
● Women's singles badminton bronze medalist PV Sindhu

Sindhu, the world champion in badminton, is the second Indian athlete to have
obtained two individual Olympic golds, behind Sushil Kumar. Ladies' singles
bronze medalist PV Sindhu defeated Chinese opponent, He Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15.
India has now secured three medals for Tokyo 2020, one more than they had at
Rio 2016.
● Men's 57 kg freestyle wrestling silver medalist Ravi Kumar

The
23-year-old Ravi Kumar Dahiya finished with a silver medal in the men's 57 kg
freestyle wrestling after dropping to two-time international champion Zavur
Uguev of ROC. It was India's ninth Olympic silver medal and its second in
wrestling, following Sushil Kumar's victory in London in 2012. Even as he
defeated Kazakhstan's Nurislam Sanayev in the semifinals, Ravi Kumar Dahiya had
guaranteed himself an Olympic medal. At one point, he turned into one of the
returned two-nine, until he obtained some elements and pinched Sanayev, after
which he rallied to win the healthy match and the medal.
● The Indian men's hockey group obtained the bronze medal
The
Indian men's hockey team won gold at the 1980 summer Olympics in Moscow, but it
took them 41 years to win another medal. India rallied to defeat Germany 5-4,
winning the bronze medal after falling behind 3-1 in the first period. After
the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, it's by far their third bronze medal at the
Olympics, giving them a total of 12 medals. In Tokyo 2020, it was India's fifth
medal.
● Bronze medal in men's 65 kg wrestling - Bajrang Punia
Bajrang
Punia, a wrestler, became the first Indian rookie to take home a medal in Tokyo
2020. Bajrang Punia of India, a bronze medalist in freestyle wrestling at 65
kg, defeated Kazakhstan's Daulet Niyazbekov, a silver medalist at the
international championships, to win the title. India has tied its record for
most medals won in a single Olympics with this sixth medal from the Tokyo
Olympics.
● Male javelin throw - Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal
After Abhinav Bindra, Neeraj Chopra won the
men's javelin throw gold medal in Tokyo 2020, making him India's second solo
Olympic winner. With the seventh medal they received in Tokyo 2020, India
achieved its highest-ever total of medals in a single Olympics. The gold medal
was received by Neeraj Chopra with a throw of 87.58 meters in the final
attempt.
