Head to Head

The past weekend saw a lot of changes to the IPL points table as four teams fought it out for those crucial two points on the table. Now, the league has reached a stage where every match matters and every upcoming match will have an impact on the table because most of the teams are playing well and are placed with very less difference between their opponents. Monday night will see the east take on the South. It’s the KKR - Kolkata vs RCB - Bangalore at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Both teams have won their previous encounters and therefore both will be beaming with confidence coming into the match. While KKR - Kolkata won an unlikely match against the KXIP, RCB  put up a clinical performance against the CSK for a convincing victory.

As the tournament is progressing, both the sides have started to look good with their batting-order as they are getting used to the conditions. Kolkata’s bowling has looked but somewhat inconsistent, they need. Bangalore, on the other hand, are rising slowly but steadily in the tournament. Both their departments have shown good progress and they are looking good to qualify for the playoffs this season. Skippers of both teams have struck good form finally and are back on the scoring sheets. The league has reached a stage where both teams will be looking for a win to stay in a comfortable position.

History

Both teams have faced each other on 25 occasions in the IPL so far, and KKR holds a 15 – 10-win record over RCB. KKR have won the title twice and will be looking to make a place for themselves in the play-offs this year as they are looking like a strong unit in this edition. RCB, on the other hand, are yet to win a title and will be hungry to win one this year, given the fact they are looking like a much stronger side than their previous seasons.

Pitch Conditions

The match will be played at the Sharjah Cricket stadium, UAE. Here, Teams batting first have an upper hand generally. The pitch has got good bounce, and the ball does not do much here, so both teams will look to earn some extra runs at the beginning.

Moreover, dew will also play an important factor so whoever wins the toss will look to bat first. The ground is short and has 60-meter boundaries in long on and 55 meter in straight and 65-meter boundary in mid-wicket. This is good news for both teams as both teams have some really good hitters in their arsenal. This could be a high-scoring match after all.

Batting

KKR :

To start off their batting order, there is Shubman Gill is looking in great touch and may turn out to be one of their highest scorers this season. Nitish Rana has been providing good support at number 3. Sunil Narine has gone down the order after a failed try at the top unlike previous seasons and KKR have found a very good option in Rahul Tripathi as a formidable support at the top for Gill. Eoin Morgan has been providing good support in the middle and is capable of finishing games for them as we saw in the last match. The good news here is skipper Dinesh Karthik who was really good in the middle in the last match, the team would want him to make a good comeback in this one. The only concern for them at the moment will be Andre Russell, who has been going through a rough patch this season.

RCB :

The RCB have some really strong batsmen including the best batsmen in the world Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in their line-up and the good news is that Virat is back on the scoring sheet! If they want to go for some interesting options for tonight, there is Aron Finch and Moeen Ali and also a certain Josh Phillipe. Youngsters Devdutt Padikkal, Shivam Dube, Pawan Negi, Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar provide them plenty of options to choose from and these boys are getting good exposure. Parthiv Patel has not yet seen the light of the day yet. They also have some formidable all-rounders in the form of Chris Morris and Isuru Udana. The batting department looks sorted, they just need their skipper to fire tonight and they are good to go for a strong finish in every match in the future.

Bowling

KKR

In the first match, there were a few sparks of talent from youngster Shivam Mavi, but the team looked heavily relied on Pat Cummins. However, after 6 matches it would not be wrong to say that KKR are looking really strong in their bowling department with every bowler in top form. Especially Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Varun Chakravarthy, all three have shown exceptional performances and have proved that they are ready for the big stage. KKR has got real depth in their bowling as they have been using 7 bowlers since 2 matches and guess what? its working! They choked CSK and Punjab at the death overs in back to back matches and this is a serious threat for other teams.

RCB:

The Bangalore team looks as strong in the bowling department as they are in the batting department. Navdeep Saini has been phenomenal to watch and did an exceptional job in their previous match, bowling in the death overs. Umesh Yadav is going through a rough patch but is still looking promising. Dale Steyn is looking like a mere shadow of the kind player he is and may soon turn things around for himself.  Mohammed Siraj and Kane Richardson add a lot of depth to the line-up while the star of the show this year has been Yuzvendra Chahal with some really good performances and the purple cap contender for his team.

Match Prediction

KKR is an excellent outfit, given the fact that they have been really consistent with their ways and their ways have worked in every match they have played. Be it, promoting Rahul Tripathi to the or going with seven bowlers in a match, their ideas are working. They will have to be really good with their bowling tonight as the ground is small and a score of 200 is not far fetched anymore.

On the other hand, RCB are back in form and it showed in the last match. Their skipper has also picked up pace and is back scoring some useful runs for his team. They are a formidable batting side and are stronger on this ground because they have a really good batting unit.
