The Best Winter Sports in the World

Winter sports can be played in the summer, regardless of the weather, thanks to technology that creates artificial snow and ice. In 1924, the winter Olympics were started, and since then, the craze for winter sports has grown exponentially. These sports can turn your boredom into excitement. From skiing to snowboarding, sledding, bobsledding, ice skating, and hockey, winter sports are some of the most thrilling activities you can engage in. So, we have listed some of the best winter sports that you will absolutely adore. Winters can be brutal on us, as can having fun with these games.

  1. Ice hockey: This game is played just like ordinary sports, except it is played on ice. If you want to feel the rush of adrenaline, this is the winter sport for you. This game is played by a group of six players, with three players on the front side, two players on defence, and a goaltender. The official Canadian sport of hockey is an exciting and fast-paced game in which the players are required to move around the field and hit, shoot, and steal the puck.
  2. Ski jumping: Skiers launch through a descending ramp, jump at the end, and try to fly as far as possible. Depending on the style and height, points are awarded to the players. This distance sport is played on a hill that consists of a ramp and requires skill, athleticism, and speed.
  3. Ice skating: You need to wear metal-bladed or ice skates so that you can glide over the surface of the ice. The fun part of ice skating involves drawing different kinds of shapes on the surface. The one with the most accurate and clear shape wins the game. Ice skating is a popular long-distance sport that people of all ages enjoy. The goal of ice skating is to create and maintain momentum as you move across the ice.
  4. Curling: In this sport, players slide a granite stone into the circular target known as the house. Curling is also a popular sport that has been around since the 16th century, where players use specialised shoes that have a slider and a gripper side to push the player easily. To avoid unfair practises, the field area, which must be covered with a curling sheet, should be flat and have circles with points to land the granite stone. Further, it also has a variant called Bavarian curling.
  5. Ice Climbing: If you've ever done rock climbing, you'll be a natural at ice climbing. You climb through the vertical ice structures on frozen waterfalls and ice-covered rocks to reach your goal. Something that scares you a lot should be taken into account when experiencing an adrenaline rush. This game is pretty fun.

Ice canoeing: The game is played using a canoe that is pushed across a frozen river. This sport was a means of transportation before it became a competitive game, but it ended after the introduction of steamboats in the late 1800s.
