30TH CENTURY OF ROHIT IN AN ODI
Rohit Sharma, captain of the Indian cricket team hit his 30th century in a one-day international. On Tuesday, 24 January 2023, India had its third ODI match against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma now equals the record of Ricky Ponting in one-day international centuries.
The fans and the Indian team have done a really long wait for the captain’s century and today it ended up. Captain Rohit and Shubman Gill had a very great start and both made a great hundred in the match.
They have set up an amazing partnership in the match against New Zealand. But the moment after Rohit scored his century, he couldn’t continue the momentum of making runs and got out at 101 scores.
These both batsmen have a very good ability to attack against the bowlers of New Zealand. The New Zealand team’s captain, Tom Latham won the toss and chose to ball first. Not only the captain but Shubman Gill also scored a century in the match.
It was the captain's 30th century in his career of one-day internationals and Shubman Gill’s fourth century in ODI. Rohit scored 101 runs in just 85 balls and hit six sixes and nine fours. Rohit has now hit in total 273 sixes and 896 fours in his full one-day international career.
This century is the second fastest hundred made in a one-day international by him. And the first fastest century was made in just 82 balls which were also played by him against the England team in the year 2018 at Nottingham.
If we talk about Shubman Gill’s century he scored 112 runs in just 78 balls and hit five sixes and thirteen fours. As this is Rohit’s 30th century of one-day international he is now ahead of Ricky Ponting in the list of most scoring centuries in one-day internationals.
Ricky Ponting has also scored 30 centuries in one-day internationals but in 375 matches that’s why Rohit Sharma stood above him in the list. As the captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma’s thirtieth one-day international century is made in his 241st match played by him internationally.
Rohit is now in the third position in the most century scorers in ODIs. The top two positions are grabbed by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and the Virat Kohli. Sachin is in the top position with 49 centuries and Virat Kohli is in the second position with 46 centuries.
With the help of captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, India reached 200 runs in just 24 overs. This is the fourth time when these two incredible players together made fifty-plus runs in an opening match on one day international.
Shubman Gill is in good form. He is one of the finest players we have in the Indian team and today he has proved this by making a century again. We hope that we will see more good performances in further matches.
