Headingley suspended to host international matches as punishment

Century-old English cricket club Yorkshire whose home ground is Headingley has been suspended from staging international matches as a part of a punishment for its involvement in the racism issues.

The club chairman Roger Hutton also has resigned from the post with immediate effect, citing club executive board members' unwillingness to accept and make an apology for the racism allegation made by former cricketer Azeem Rafiq. The issue has already shaken the game in England as well as the world of cricket.

Rafiq, a former England Under-19 captain revealed in an interview last year that as a Muslim he was made to feel 'outsider' in Yorkshire for a long time he was there from 2008 to 2018. Yorkshire launched a formal investigation where Rafiq made 43 allegations and the key among those allegations was that Rafiq became a victim of racial harassment and bullying.
