Indian group's selection for Sri Lanka Series offers a glimpse into future

The choice of the Sri Lanka Series crew will be made by the departing choice committee's last undertaking, and it seems that they saved their best for last. In terms of Indian cricket, 2022 turned into a year of transformation.

The end of Virat Kohli's tenure as India's limited-overs captain in 2021 was delayed due to an off-the-field altercation, which set the tone for the coming year. The appointment of Rohit Sharma as ODI captain for the South Africa series came as a marvel to India's top batter, who was also trying to regain his fine form despite having previously relinquished the position after having served in T20Is.

Luckily, Rohit could not play in the South Africa Series due to injury, and Kohli's test squad misplaced the series regardless of being in the lead. The game-winning match marked the end of Kohli's captaincy. It was a time when India played to win and triumphed across all formats, far exceeding its previous record. The ICC trophy, though, had escaped them.

As a result, Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma were in total control of the state of affairs, and for a participant with five IPL championships, the ICC T20 Global Cup was ready to be picked up. Even the most committed Indian cricket fanatics realised that the crew had become one of the great contenders, so it would no longer be that easy for Rohit.

The cricket juggernaut arrived in the IPL following a home bilateral series, which India won. For the ones trying to make the Indian team for the T20 Global Cup, this became the most critical match, and plenty staked their claims with noteworthy performances.

Hardik Pandya led the Gujarat Titans to victory after rising from the ashes like a phoenix. He had elements of both Dhoni and Kohli's management styles, and as an all-rounder, he was a cricketer reborn. The dominance of Mumbai-Chennai was broken as the Titans won the IPL because an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya was ably supported by a mix of young and seasoned abilities.

In the following months, India tried out their newfound options as the captaincy was passed around like a banknote due to Pandya's return. For the most important competitions, Rohit Sharma became well-rested and changed into Virat Kohli, who had now slipped into a hunch of a bad form from which many began to worry he could be difficult to recover.

India's Asia Cup run came to a disappointing end when they were eliminated by England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. The crushing defeat rendered Rohit inconsolable and presented the Indian cricket team with a clear photograph of what had become incorrect with the Indian team. India continued to play outdated cricket in Twenty20 internationals following their semi-final defeat in 2016, T20 International Cup. The comeback of elite hitter Virat Kohli was the only effective outcome of both of these competitions.
