New captain of Australia is Pat Cummins
Cricket Australia announced fast bowler Pat Cummins as the team's new captain ahead of the crucial Ashes series against arch-rivals England with Steve Smith as his deputy. The development took place after former captain Tim Paine had to resign from captain's post after he was being investigated over lewd text messages sent to a female Tasmanian cricket staff in 2017. Cricket Australia chief, Nick Hockley has stated, "Cummins is an outstanding player and leader. He has received huge respect from his teammates and all corners of the game for his attitude and achievements both on and off the field. Cummins has become 47th captain of Australia with Smith returning to a key role after being forced to step down from captain's post following the 'Sandpaper-gate' ball-tampering scandal in 2018.
