Oversight Committee Headed by Mary Kom

This committee is a five-person oversight committee which is headed by the legend of the boxing world that is MC Mary Kom. She  will look into the allegations of sexual harassment against the WFI President that is Wrestling Federation of India and president is Mr. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.


Additionally, for the upcoming days, this committee which is appointed by the government will oversee the Wrestling Federation of India’s daily operations. The other members of the panel include Yogeshwar Dutt who is the gold medalist wrestler in the Olympics.


The committee also includes Trupti Murgunde who is a cell member at the Olympic Mission and a badminton player; ex-CEO of TOPS, Rajagopalan and executive director of SAI,  Radhica Sreeman.


This statement was given on Monday that is 23rd of January by Anurag Thakur, who is the Sports Minister. Sports Minister Anurag has taken a decision to build a committee on the 22nd of January. He took this decision due to the protest done by the top wrestlers against the Wrestling Federation of India and the chief of WFI.


The sit-in protest was done by many of the country’s topmost wrestlers which include Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, and many more. The protest ended on Friday night after three days. The protesters demanded a ban on the WFI and the formation of a new federation that can help and guide them.

 

 

Anurag Thakur has given the statement that “The president of WFI Anurag will not be engaging in his daily work routines of the wrestling federation and will stay away from his duties. The work of the wrestling federation will now be looked at by the Oversight Committee created by the government today and this committee will also look after the allegations against the wrestling federation.”

 

Anurag also added that the Oversight Committee will be headed by the pride of India and the champion in the field of boxing, MC Mary Kom. Along with her many teammates are appointed who will be working with Mary Kom and helping her in managing all the work.

 

 

For the next month, this committee will take charge of the WFI and will see after the allegations and submit the report to the higher authorities. Till the report is submitted by the Committee, they will only take the day-to-day decisions of the Wrestler Federation of India.


If we talk about Mary Kom,  born in November 1982; she is a very good boxer, a great political leader, and a very reputable member of the Parliament in Rajya Sabha. She earned many awards including 6 gold medals in the World Championships.

 

In 2012 she won a bronze medal in the Olympic Games held in London. She won one gold medal and one bronze medal  in the Asian Games in 2014 . She has also achieved five Gold and two silvers at the Asian Championships and another gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
