Pietersen was initially skeptical about Maxwell

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has already placed them to become the favorites to lift the Indian Premier League 2021 trophy after four straight wins in the competition. The jubilant 10-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals has further shown how strong RCB's squad is in this season. Along with Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Devdutt Padikkal, there is another cricketer who deserves as much credit for the franchise's success so far. He is Glenn Maxwell. In the first four matches, Maxwell has smashed 176 runs at an average of 58.66 and a strike rate of 149.15 this season. But after last year's poor showing in the IPL, many were skeptical about RCB’s purchase of the Aussie heavy-hitter and one of them was former England batsman Kevin Pietersen.

In his blog the former England opener has written, “I was skeptical of RCB’s purchase of Glenn Maxwell at the beginning of the tournament, partly because he is ‘The Big Show’ – he likes to be the main man in the teams he plays in,” Pietersen wrote in the blog. Pietersen explained he thought initially that with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers at the helm of affairs, Maxwell would not be able to establish himself as the team’s one of the pivots which ultimately the Australian batsman has proved wrong.
