Ray Illingworth reveals he is diagnosed with cancer
Former England captain Ray Illingworth who led his country to an Ashes series triumph in 1971 has disclosed he is being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The 89-year old is undergoing radiotherapy treatment. He has commented, "They are optimistic about coming out of the last bit (of the tumor). I will see how these next doses go keep my finger crossed and hope to have a bit of luck. I do not have the last 12 months that my wife had. She had to pass through a terrific time going from hospital to hospital and with sheer pain."Illingworth's wife Shirley died earlier this year after suffering from cancer and Illingworth has offered his support for law changes over assisted dying. He has stated, "I do not see a point in living like that honestly."
