Zampa, Richardson still locked in Mumbai, waiting for Australia return

Cricket Australia has been talking to the Australian government to try and bring home two of their cricketers who are currently stuck in India after having decided to opt out of their respective IPL contracts. It has been two days since leg-spinner Adam Zampa and fast bowler Kane Richardson left the biosecure bubble, following their withdrawal from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad for ‘personal reasons’.But with Australia now having suspended all direct flights from India, it looks like Zampa and Richardson will not be able to get home before May 15, when the temporary travel ban is set to end.

It has been learnt that the two Australians parted ways with RCB on Sunday on 25th and moved into a hotel close to the airport in Mumbai. The Bangalore franchise has since moved to Ahmedabad where they will play their next set of matches.

A CA spokesperson confirmed to this website that the board is waiting to hear from the government about whether Zampa and Richardson will be given an exemption to return to Australia. They are currently working with the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) and DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) to see if a way could be found for the duo to get home before May 15.
