India takes sweet revenge, trouncing England by 317 runs in the England Tour of India 2021 Test Match Series.
India won the 2nd Test at Chennai against England by 317 runs on the fourth day of the Test with a day left, forcing them to end their second innings at 164 while chasing a target of 482 runs. The 4-Test series now is on 1-1 after England had won the first Test at Chennai.
In England’s second innings apart from Joe Root and Moeen Ali, who tried to fight back, with 33 and 43, respectively, none was able to strike back on a spinning track at Chennai.
Joe Root, the captain who was in tremendous form in the last couple of Tests, tried to resist Indian bowlers, scoring 33 of 92 deliveries in 133 minutes on the crease. He departed in the 49.2 over and over at the hands of Axar Patel while Moeen Ali, staying on the crease for 27 minutes, struck 43 off 18 deliveries. Joe Root scored 33 of 92 deliveries in 133 minutes.
India Vs England 2nd Test saw another Indian spinner, Axar Patel acquiring a five-wicket haul on debut with a superb bowling figure of 21 overs, 60 runs, and 5 wickets. R. Ashwin, the hero of the Test and also awarded Player-of-the-match with a century and a five-wicket haul in the first innings, also claimed 3 wickets, giving away 53 runs in 18 overs. Kuldeep Yadav the Chinaman captured 2 wickets in 6.2 overs at the cost of 25 runs.
India Vs England 2nd Test also saw the failure of Ben Stokes on whom England had depended a lot. Even former England cricketers expressed optimism on the all-rounder mentioning that Stokes could change the complexion of the match. Stokes remained wicket-less and scored only 18 runs in the first innings and got out for only 8 runs even after playing 51 deliveries.
India Vs England 2nd Test Day 4 also witnessed the return of Rohit Sharma in Test as his magnificent 161 had guided Indians to build up the mammoth total in the first innings.
